“Live like the villagers and explore the mountains like the locals”, if this prospect excites you then Changey is the perfect place for you.

The Locale:

Changey is a quaint little farming village situated in the foothills of the Northern Himalayas and falls under the Kalimpong district of West Bengal and is situated at an altitude of nearly 5800 ft. This small village is connected by road via Lingsey or Kolakham, can be easily accessible from major cities and towns like Siliguri, Gangtok and Kalimpong. The farm is around 10 min walk from the nearest motorable road. Simple and rustic is how you would describe the day to day life of the villagers here. Mostly self sustainable, people here are very friendly and treat tourists like their own.

The Abode:

Surrounded by corn plantation and varied varieties of flora and fauna, the old farmhouse in which you are going to stay will remind you of the rustic charm of an abode high up on the mountains. Located within the ecozone of the Northen Himalayas, this farm stay sits amidst nothing but the raw beauty of Mother Nature. The sounds that one hears are the chirping of birds from the beautiful trees around and if you listen carefully you will find out that there is an almost soulful silence awning the place from the chaos and clutter of the outside world.

The owners of the farm stay, who will be your host as well are very friendly and get very excited with the prospect of a tourist coming to their place. They believe in an organic and self sustainable way of life, so almost all the food that they consume is grown right at the farm. The farm boasts of a varied variety of flora and fauna ranging from medicinal plants, edible plants and crops to farm animals of various types which they maintain and cater to on regular basis. Members of the family are also very skilled and manufacture handcrafted baskets, hats, food containers etc from bamboo strips. So if you are interested you can learn a trick or two about the same from the owners.

A few minutes of walk from the farm stay takes you to a nearby local viewing point from where you can soak in the majestic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga in all its glory. At night all members of the family like to gather together around the crackling of the fire in a cosy little shack built right next to the main house. Mountain people have the most amazing stories to tell if you lend them a keen ear.
